The rejuvenation and renaissance of the New Zealand rolling stock fleet and depots will be in full view, with displays and presentations covering a range of new and refurbished rolling stock, and new and old depot and workshop facilities.
The static display at the Wellington Railway station will show case:

Knowledgeable individuals will be on hand to point out features of interest and answer questions. Participants will receive a complementary booklet of pictures and key data of the rolling stock.
Following this will be a depot visit. The arrival of the fleet of Matangi EMUs has necessitated a considerable expansion of maintenance depot facilities, and a visit will be made to the EMU depot almost completed and the recently-commissioned underfloor wheel lathe.
Enjoy a buffet lunch and a presentation at the iconic Wellington Stadium (the “Cake-tin”) which overlooks the Wellington rail yards.
In the afternoon visit the nearby Hutt Workshops, one of two major railway workshops in New Zealand. It specialises in locomotive heavy maintenance and rebuild, and has also successfully refurbished passenger rolling stock including the Auckland diesel multiple unit fleet (that started life in Perth), SX cars from Queensland, and many more. A tour of the main facilities at Hutt will see work of this nature in progress.
Participants are advised to bring appropriate warm clothing, raincoat and stout shoes. Hi-viz safety vests and safety glasses will be supplied.
